Events Talk #3 on October 10th has different vibes. Conceptualized as International Virtual Seminar, the event was held to commemorate the 11th anniversary of the Vocational College. The event which was held online via Zoom and live streaming on YouTube, the seminar invited 2 speakers from Department of Languages, Arts, and Culture Management (DBSMB)’s partner, which were Paradance Platform-Balai Budaya Minomartani, Sanggar Seni Kinanti Sekar (SSKS), and Shivamanohari School of Performing Arts Canada. The event was held for approximately 3 hours long, was an academic innovation to facilitate DBSMB’s partner which has art and cultural background to keep working in a virtual stage. Took the theme of Arts and Intercultural Communication, the webinar reviewing the relation between arts and intercultural understanding in the process. Each speaker enthusiastically shared the research, stories, and experiences along with their journey both nationally and internationally.
Nia Agustin from Paradance in her presentation stated that in exploring, an attitude of prioritizing equality and cultural sensitivity is needed to set a safe space for the process of art and cultural exchange. When making the choreography of “Mitoni 2016”, Kinanthi Sekar Rahina shared her experience about the process of body movement as a form of express language about prayer to Almighty to provide help to mothers who are pregnant. In the process of this work, she was pregnant with her first child. Gomathi Boorada from Shivamanohari explained how art can be a communication medium. Gomathi gave an example of a collaborative activity between puppet from India “Tholu Bomma” and dance drama involving sign language participation. Another speaker who was also the chairman of the committee, Dewi Cahya Ambarwati from D4 English DBSMB SV explained about the relationship of diesetris and religion in dance.
Purpose of the webinar:
1. The creation of a dialogue medium that is educative and inspirational between academicians, practitioners, and the general public in the arts and culture field.
2. The existence of a well-organized webinar, will show the real and actual forms of cooperation and the collaboration with the partners so that the hope for the future will sustain without impacting the productivity of the academicians.
