Japanese Language Study Program of Department of Languages, Arts, and Culture Management (DBSMB) of Vocational College UGM took place in 225 SV UGM room held the closing ceremony of the Japanese Language Teaching Practicum Program February 16th-28th, 2020, cooperation between DBSMB and Showa Women’s University. The event was attended by the head of the department, Dr. Endang Soelistiyowati, M.Pd., lecturers, and also students of the Japanese Language Study Program DBSMB Vocational College UGM.Yuumi Kato and Narumi Kato had a chance to be tutors; meanwhile, the participants of the activity were students of 2017 and 2018 this year. This program brought 2 students from the cherry blossom country to feel the lively atmosphere, which was friendly interaction from the lecturer and the students, fun activities in the class, and knowledge transferring process that was not stiff. In other words, there were no difficulties in the practicum process, considering that this activity was the first experience for both the tutor and the students. Besides, the students of the Japanese Language Study Program got the opportunity to meet the native, which led them to learn Japanese culture directly. One of many lessons they got during their interaction with the tutor was knowledge of new vocabularies about slang in Japanese.
Not only sharing about Japanese language and culture, but both tutors also got to know more about Bahasa Indonesia and Indonesian culture. Among their tight schedule, the students took Yuumi and Narumi to tourism sites such as Borobudur, Prambanan, and Taman sari to enrich their knowledge, especially about Yogyakarta’s local culture and around it. Moreover, they both did some culinary tourism trying jamu and gudeg.
Through this activity, Yuumi and Narumi could understand the activity related to the daily life of students of the Japanese Language Study Program of DBSMB Vocational College UGM. The first thing they learned was tolerance of Moslem students who have to pray in the middle of their activity. Interaction between them brought a deep impression, and both of them recommended to the committee that in the future, students can be more involved in the whole activity.
